iPhone OS v4.0

The new iPhone OS v4.0 is set for release in the summer and offers over 100 new features for iPhone owners. Vital additions include homescreen wallpapers, spell checker, tap to focus on video, playlist creation, geo-tagging of photos, Bluetooth keyboard compatibility and gift apps, a fantastic new way to give gifts to friends and family. Apple has cleverly developed the operating system to handle the latest apps in an intelligent manner to provide a performance far above the rest. The new developments fall into 7 categories and the highlights of each are discussed below.

Multitasking: By far the most vital development that has been available on other operating systems but Apple have added their own unique perspective and engineered a service that doesn’t drain battery life or slow down the system. Users can for example listen to the Pandora Internet radio whilst playing games or using Tom Tom for turn-by-turn navigation. Voice over IP services can be used whilst multitasking and Skype whom connect 1 in 9 of all International calls in the World can now be left silently running in the background to ensure calls are never missed. Apps that take time to complete tasks like uploading photos to Flickr can also be left running in the background freeing the user to continue using other services.

Folders: Applications can now be went into folders via drag and drop to simplify the 11 page menu screens. Additionally restrictions to only 180 apps have been hugely increased with the aid of folders to a massive 2160 apps.

Mail: A unified inbox now handles all email accounts in one location. Streamlining the service further, ongoing messaging can be organised into threads and if desired quick inbox switching can be used to return to a specific email account.

iBooks: With tens of thousands of books available from the iBookstore, many of which are free, making this a fantastic addition. Books can be searched for by author, title or genre and showed on a virtual bookshelf. Sample pages can also be viewed for many of the books available for buy.

Enterprise: With a growing number of companies using iPhones, security has been enhanced. Lots of useful features have been developed including wireless application distribution.

Game Centre: Access is provided to over 50,000 games and entertainment titles that now have enhanced features. Social gaming networks allow the user to challenge friends and view leaderboards. The matchmaking service will also connect similar users together for multiplayer games.

iAd: Mobile advertising is not to be shied away from here as the App Store (now boasting over 185,000 apps) can bring more free apps by utilising ad revenues. The right power of interactive ads was nicely showed at the iPhone OS 4 launch using Toy Tale 3 as a demonstration model. Banners at the base of the apps store can be clicked, and instead of being guided away from the app the interactive ad services run from within it where access to free games, game downloads, video clips, wallpapers, character info and cinema locations are provided.

The new iPhone OS will be available on the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS (new services are model dependant) from summer and on the iPad from autumn.

BBC Crimewatch presenter wins case against stalker

BBC Crimewatch presenter wins case against stalker

Former Detective Constable  who has also appeared on Strictly Come Dancing and Masterchef  Rav Wilding was relieved to see his Facebook and Twitter stalker Toneeta Beckford found guilty of harassment by Warley Magistrates court.

Toneeta BeckfordToneeta Beckford, cyber-stalked Crimewatch and Strictly Come Dancing star Rav Wilding.

BBC Crimewatch presenter Rav Wilding today told a court he feared being attacked like his murdered predecessor Jill Dando by an internet stalker who allegedly abused him over Facebook and Twitter.

Toneeta Beckford sent ‘vile and grotesque’ abuse over the social networking sites threatening that she would ‘see him on Judgement Day’, a court heard.

Beckford bombarded ex-police officer Wilding with four-letter obscenities through emails and his personal website saying she hoped he ‘broke his legs’ while taking part in BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Beckford, 24, also sent Wilding, 32, messages full of extremist religious rants, as well as lewd pictures of herself posing in her underwear.

The BBC star – who allegedly even received abuse from Beckford after police had arrested her – revealed he had to beef up his security amid fears he could’ve been attacked like Dando, 37, who was murdered outside her London home in April 1999.

Among the foul-mouthed messages sent to Wilding was one which said: “Don’t f**k with me Rav…I will see you right on Judgement Day.”

Another four-letter rant said: “Who the f**k do you reckon you are? It’s not your world, it’s Allah’s…you will see me go to Paradise and I will see you go to Hell.”

Wilding, giving evidence at Beckford’s trial for harassment, told a court: “The messages made me feel threatened because of the religious extremist views.

Rav WildingRav Wilding “feared for his life” just like his predecessor Jill Dando

Magistrates in Warley, West Mids, heard the Crimewatch star was left ‘shocked’ by constant references from Beckford that she would ‘see him on Judgement Day’.

The Kent-born TV star, a former Detective Constable who has also appeared on Strictly Come Dancing and Masterchef, said in evidence how he blocked Ms Beckford from his Facebook and Twitter sites, but still received repeated messages from her under different names.

Mr Peter Like, prosecuting, said: “Some of the messages were bizarre, some of them abusive, and some of them quasi-religious in referring to Allah.

“If you look at the number of messages and the content, any reasonable person would believe this amounted to harassment.

“Ms Beckford must have realised her messages were unwanted, but she persisted with different names under different accounts.”

Beckford, of Smethwick, West Mids, denies harassing Wilding between September and December last year.

Warley Magistrates found Ms Beckford guilty of harassment, and will sentence her later this month.

Prosecutor Peter Like recommended that stalker Beckford be given a restraining order against Wilding, who was released on bail on the condition that she makes no contact with the Crimewatch presenter.

Dr Patricia Martin, Chair of Warley Magistrates, told her: “We find the case against you proved. You did cause harassment to Mr Wilding, which any reasonable person would realise amounted to such a cause of conduct by posting on a number of social networking websites a number of bizarre and abusive messages which were rightly seen by Mr Wilding as being of a threatening nature.”
